Crow’s Captions: Shibukawa Gunma Manhole Poem
July 14th, 2008

Firefighters of Tetrisburg, lay down your hoses and come burrow with us. Hide from fire, let it play for a day. We'll poke vienna sausages up through manholes and roast them at the feet of floods of flames.

Oven Bird
O happy
en-moling
fluff-pot,
Secreting yourself
away in
chewy bole-bubble,
Peep from
branch-crater,
wriggle out & meet
Cooling air like
biscuit newly risen,
and like crab, like snail,
like bee,
Build your cell and
Please
seal well

Even on paper
we’ll grind your breastbone to pulp
stamp & seal it with tread
Even on paper
we’ll puddle your brain
puddle your heart
puddle your crayon cloud dreams
your crayon gust dreams
your crayon gale dreams
Even on paper we’ll mill
your seed dreams and
nest dreams
and wet-feathered squawk-chick
puling feedme dreams
Don’t come here even in effigy
Even on paper;
We grind your line
disappear it into soil

Listen I know this is uncomfortable and I am sorry for that but I am very hungry and for right now I strongly feel that I am more important than you.
More of Dave Chung’s art here.

You're not for tongues, asteroid,
depth charge --
you won't be bolus --
& though I can't shove you,
I'll sink dynamite-head into your core and
pop,
spread your icy all the fuck over,
sugar gore, sugar gore, glisten on gingham,
your cookie carcass charred,
fizzy & glowing around me like a halloween death star.

Furred, murky, ominous cloud-wet
Baklava soil strata, all pistachio and pomegranate
Trees, tiny, trembling under & hungering for all that smudgy threat

Cabiria, Cabiria. I just saw you, Cabiria.
I saw you walking, wreathed in music and smiling faces.
The stark thin trees on either side.
Your mouth making that funny, smirky smile.
Guided where? How does your night end?
Shepherded by laughing kids on bikes
To what boat, what river?
A final water?
Or soft folds of wave
To help ferry you
To where we start again?
